"Fading into White" was one of the most creative and fun cds that I have written, produced and mastered so far. I have continued with the idea that I want to write the music first and then follow with the lyrics. I usually begin with one chord and go from there building on a chordal image that simply sounds good to my ears. When I have finished a chord structure that flows the way I want it to I go ahead and figure out lyrics that will go along with those chords. From there we go into the arrangement of the song and figure out where George's solos are going to go. After that it is merely a matter of mixing and mastering what the final product is.
The musical flavor of this cd is a mellow, easy flowing, jazz structure without going too far outside the box musically. It is meant to join in the ranks of songs like "Autumn Leaves", "The lady is a Tramp", and "Satin Doll". The goal was to create songs that are creative with their lyrics and yet musically appealing to listen to at the same time. Songs that would gently caress you rather than hit you over the head. The lyrics are meant to contain an element of naivety in their nature, a kind of throwback from the 50's or 60's kind of romances where emotion was more pure and raw.
Songs on the cd are as follows;
"I'll be in the Moonlight" - This is a song about a man who is still trying to get over lost love.
"I'm Really Just Beginning" - A Song about Someone who is just starting to understand that everything is not always about them. There is a certain amount of satisfaction in loving those people around you.
"I'm Just Waiting For the Smile" - A story about two people in a relationship that have learned how to be together and continue to make one another happy.
"Up is Up" - This is a song about a relationship that simply relies on the fact that it is based on truth and what is real. Even though there is a world of fake facts and actions you can always count on your love to be real.
"Fading into White" - Newfound love has brought meaning to this person's life.
"Out of the Misty Blue" - Love sometimes comes when you least expect it.
"Minor Blues" - Oh no! Another damaged love affair trying to get mended.
"Spinning" - A song about how crazy our life is and how getting a grip on things is not as easy as we would like it to be.
"Those Thoughts of You" - A song about someone who sees more to a relationship than what really is there.
"All Turned Around" - This Song gets into the head of someone who has recently found love.
"Tripping Alone in Darkness" - This song shows someone in their lowest of lows, someone who has ruined their life and is facing the fact that it was their fault and they have no one to blame but themselves.
"One Step Forward" - This song describes someone who is too shy to move forward in a relationship and as a result things move along at a really slow pace.
"I'm Stepping Up" - A song about someone who has really not done a whole lot in his life but is convinced he is just one step away from hitting the jackpot and making it big!
